What We Do

Lough Neagh Boating Heritage Association began 20 years ago in the Wetlands project by German artist Holger Longe.

16 men built 4 Dunfanaghy Currach’s then built a lough Neagh 17ft clinker wooden fishing boat – the Lough Neagh cot.  Holger then left however the group remained together.

Our Mission

We strive to promote sustainable development on social, economic, environmental and cultural levels.

How we do this:

  • We save local boat types, and use this knowledge to keep the art of traditional boat making alive.

  • We promote traditional Irish crafts and skills.

  • We collect information on historical craft and craft workers.

  • Engage frequently with other local groups such as Fishermen and Crafts people.

  • Making boats for filmsets and providing boats for commercials.

  • Provide groups with recreational activities in nature.

  • Provide a gathering place for others with an interest in traditional crafts.

  • We engage in cross community projects and trips.

  • Conduct workshops on traditional craft and traditional boat building practices.
